I wonder if that is the new part that we are seeing in the new technic line???

Anyone care to take a guess?

If so, Im sort of amazed that the time gap is so huge, but of course, a search of many other Lego patents has shown us really cool parts that never even made (such as monorail crosstrack, stems for the leave piece to make trees, and decorative wall elements) into production.

Janey “Red Brick”

Just found that same patent about one week ago too, as well as the one for the monorail (among some other interesting ones). We got some interesting discussions about these in two forums but unfortunately, they are in Portuguese (The two forums we have in Portugal about LEGO).

I believe this patent is really the predecessor from the upcoming LA. Also believe the ZNAP flexible axles, could be of great use for many applications where required torque is not too high, like with the LAs (I guess). Unfortunately these ZNAP axles have very limited availability/diversity. Just one size (26L) available and quite long for many use needs. They get advantage for the regular flexible axles, because they real axle termination and material should allow more torque.

Something to be shown more in detail at my blog in some time.

However I do believe LEGO will use regular axels and Universal Joints at its new Excavator and Telehandler sets, to transmit torque into the new LAs.

Jennifer Clark, shown us the use of such ZNAP axles into a transmission system.
