I guess that's for aesthetical reason but maybe also because baseplates don't
have underside tubes like plates to pile them. So he has used their studs in a
SNOT way to attach them to the structural part of the ride.
Actually the question is - why are the baseplates cut ? ! I'm more concerned
with parts being cut than them being SNOTted :-)
