Yes, this fact is known, and these parts have been usefully replaced by the
Technic Connector Angle serie.

I agree....but what about the 6542 part ?
(http://www.peeron.com/inv/parts/6542)...this part is basically intended to stay
free (idle gear). The bush will hold it in place, yes , so the bush makes it
useless.
