What's the reason behind "parting the line" on the line that lifts the hook on a crane? I see this is mostly done with fairly large cranes (crawler cranes especially). Max (20 years ago, 27-Jun-04, to lugnet.technic)

(...) increasing the number of lines means operating the hoist is slower - a 10 line hook will take 10 times longer to raise and lower than a single line. That is the reason many heavy lifting cranes have multiple hoist lines - multiple line for (...) (20 years ago, 28-Jun-04, to lugnet.technic)
