I too would like such a reference - sadly, at this point the best I've found
is looking over (more often, building) stock LEGO studless designs. The small
'dozer Technic model that was released last year was a very nice education (for
its size/price), and the MER set was really my first encounter with the
technique (& still a favorite).

Again, I'll echo you on the request, but add that a good way to learn is to
start playing with the touch sensors first. That one axlehole is *so* useful.
The RCX integrates OK, but the motors are the trouble point. They almost require
a frame of studs (for that matter, studless gears are a tough call as well -
things like the extreme 4x4 offroader are alomst studless, but for things like
the bevel gears & suspension they still use studs.
