1) The chassis are identical apart from minor color differences (such as the
springs, and engine pistons)
2) The body panels are all different. The new style of body panel doesn't have
as many holes through them. Technic set 8454 also uses these new panels, but in
red.
3) In the 8461, a lot of 1x6 and 1x8 tiles are used to put stickers on.
4) 8458 has instructions for a racing truck alternate model, 8461 doesn't have
any alternate model.
5) 8458 includes a big steering wheel for that truck, 8458 doesn't.
6) 8461 is $40 cheaper :)
I recommend the 8461, and if you're hell bent on making a racing truck, try to
download the 8458 instructions and go from there. (Or buy set 5563, which
frikkin' rocks)
