New MOC added: Scania R143 with steered trailer and loading crane

I just added this model to my website. It's not new because I already built it eight years ago. (URL) Scania R143H> (URL) (19 years ago, 22-Oct-05, to lugnet.modelteam, lugnet.technic, lugnet.announce.moc, FTX) !

Re: High Failure Rate of New Type 9V Geared Motor

(...) I'm guessing it may also be cheaper / easier to manufacture. ROSCO (19 years ago, 22-Oct-05, to lugnet.robotics, lugnet.technic)

Re: High Failure Rate of New Type 9V Geared Motor

(...) I suspect it's bad design. Perhaps the way the brushes rub on the PCB as pointed out by Philo ((URL) "This higher friction explains why 43362 stops faster when you give the shaft a twirl, and why its no-load current is higher (9mA vs. 3.5mA)". (...) (19 years ago, 22-Oct-05, to lugnet.robotics, lugnet.technic)

Re: High Failure Rate of New Type 9V Geared Motor

(...) I sent Nathanael Kuipers an email regarding the motors and asked him to forward it to the proper person. Do you think it is excessive torque, excessive use, or just a bad piece design that causes this problem? Nathan (19 years ago, 21-Oct-05, to lugnet.robotics, lugnet.technic)

Re: Idea Books 8888 and 8889

(...) Very interesting. Thanks! Keep em coming! (19 years ago, 21-Oct-05, to lugnet.technic, FTX)

  Re: Gray code vs. Binary

(...) Haha! I've found a better way to do it, and a better drawing :-) Take my Pick and Place robot circuit: (URL) out the Elbow pistons and switch and connect the Elbow piston inputs to the Wrist piston instead (effectively draw the horozontal (...) (19 years ago, 20-Oct-05, to lugnet.technic)

  Re: Gray code vs. Binary

(...) Hi Mark, You are right. I've had the wrong term in my head all this time. Gray code is not what I was thinking about I guess...... I'll have to go study Gray code better, and then study your descriptions. Man I wish you had a scanner and could (...) (19 years ago, 20-Oct-05, to lugnet.technic)

  Re: Gray code vs. Binary

(...) Hi Kev, I think the cheapest way to do 3 or 4-bit binary with pneumatics would be to use gray code and convert it. Gray code always changes the least significant bit possible in order to achieve a change to a new state, so there will always be (...) (19 years ago, 20-Oct-05, to lugnet.technic)

Re: Idea Books 8888 and 8889

When I was approx. 16 years, I built (URL) this> (book 8889, pages 38-41). Lousy picture, I know (my dad didn't want me to take a picture myself). Trying to rebuild something without building instructions was always more challenging... ;-) If I (...) (19 years ago, 20-Oct-05, to lugnet.technic, FTX)

  Gray code vs. Binary

To all those pneumatic gurus..... The classic pneumatic timing circuit made with one switch per piston changes state following gray code (i.e. only one piston changes at a time). This means that a two piston timer goes through these states: (...) (19 years ago, 20-Oct-05, to lugnet.technic)

Re: Idea Books 8888 and 8889

(...) I really wanted to use the 4.5V motor from [LEGOSet 8700] since the motor is near-identical to 870's, but the battery box from that set is cylindrical and very long, so it's doubtful I could make it fit in there. However, if I decide to use 9V (...) (19 years ago, 20-Oct-05, to lugnet.technic, FTX)

Re: Idea Books 8888 and 8889

From memory the crane was a bit of a clunker with 4.5v. Let us know how it goes with 9volts in the back ! Steve (19 years ago, 20-Oct-05, to lugnet.technic)

Re: High Failure Rate of New Type 9V Geared Motor

(...) Thanks! No, these motors were only used for FLL type challenges, not in fast RC cars. I can submit the bad motors for *CSI* and 'autopsy' if need be. C S Soh (19 years ago, 20-Oct-05, to lugnet.robotics, lugnet.technic)

  Idea Books 8888 and 8889

I recently acquired the two first Technic Idea books. The pictures included leave me hungry for more. Is there anyone here who has built the larger models AND took some pictures of them ? I would be anxious to see them (and any variation made to (...) (19 years ago, 20-Oct-05, to lugnet.technic)

Reliable Switch Point Control with Pneumatics

Here's a reliable scheme for controlling unmodified switch points with pneumatics. This scheme is for use on track that is raised up off the baseplate in modules. I have reduced the depth required below the track to a minimum of 9 plates in the (...)   gearbox pack 673F - any use for it?

The gearbox pack 673F is now on sale at half-price at S@H (URL) there a good use for it? I could use it as a motor, except I can't tell how it's powered (how many volts, nature of connection). If it only works connected to another RC motor, then it (...) (19 years ago, 19-Oct-05, to lugnet.technic)

Re: Pictures of New technique: Cascaded Trinary Pneumatics (aka mid-stop)

(...) I'll start a schematic next week as this week is an unusual week at work. That should cover the pneumatic circuit. Basically, each stage gets a feed from the compressor, which goes to the middles of the two switches that drive the next stage (...) (19 years ago, 17-Oct-05, to lugnet.technic, lugnet.robotics)

Re: High Failure Rate of New Type 9V Geared Motor

(...) I had the same problem with one of mine. Using them in a fast RC car might do this if it gets slammed into something. I will inform Nathanael Kuipers of the problem since he works at TLC and can tell the proper person. (19 years ago, 17-Oct-05, to lugnet.robotics, lugnet.technic)

  Re: Road Grader

(...) Hi Vineet! The model is 80% done and I have run out of yellow studs. Here is Saturday's link- (URL) may decide to make it with a black stripe down the side which would utilize the large supply of black studs I have. Since I never make (...) (19 years ago, 17-Oct-05, to lugnet.technic)

  Crane MOC made during boredom

Hey all, thought I'd share my little crane MOC. It's a custom base with two new 9v geared motors used to drive each track through the following gears: 24 tooth crown on motor 24 tooth 8 tooth 8 tooth 24 tooth 8 tooth 24 tooth 40 tooth driving treads (...)
