In fact, this same part is present in the Bionicle sets.  Look at the chest
of Lewa, Kopaka, and Tahu, and the under-arm on Pohatu.

I really, really, really hope LEGO didn't think that a Stormtrooper was a

I'm not impressed with the designs either, but what does interest me is • that
there appears to be a new kind of Throwbot compatible piece in those sets.
Look closely at the elbows and wrists of the stormtrooper. I'm guessing • that
its a Slizer Joint ball Fused with short length of axel. I see possible
applications for mech design.
