What is with the little mini-shuttle thing in the port side of the Falcon?

An escape pod, maybe?

I also noticed there's a cargo bay on the front of the ship, in the cavity in
the middle of the "claw".  There are two vertical doors that swing outward to
reveal a bay.  The bay has smooth plates on the floor like the one in the B-
Wing.

Yup, I love those doors!

My gawd that's a beautiful model!

Someone mentioned the use of the mini-fig "harpoon" weapons in the guns.
Anyone notice the minifig *shovels* on the inside of the vertical foils??
Because you just never know when you might get stuck on Dagobah  :]

Yup, I did when I first saw the picture in the catalog.

I like the use of the blue tubes on the edges of the foils.  But what are the
large black plates (about 8x8) with the cross-hatched pattern on them?  I
count at least 10..., have these been around before?

Yes, it first appeared in set 6276 Eldorado Fortress.  More recently, it has
appeared in 6560 Diving Expedition Explorer.

Looks like we'll both have to get new keyboards...  :)

Why are parts of the laser guns on the port side tan, but they are completely
grey on the starboard side?

Also, the top starboard laser "barrel" appears to have a ridged hose aloing
it, whereas the lower one is smooth barrels.  Difficult to see what's on the
port side.

I think someone supposed it was to give it a slightly beat-up, mismatched look.

Funky white/printed wing root pieces...

I don't think it is printing, I think it is a sticker.  Woohoo!!

And the nose appears to have a hinge in it (white).  Wonder what's inside when
it swings open??

Nothing.  It is hinged because the nose is tapered, by hinging the long
section.

Nice grey 2x2x2 cylinder pieces in the engines.  Cool dark-grey nozzles at the
ends too.

D'ya mean the gray barrels?  I'm excited about that!  :)

(...) I'm going to assume you meant to reply to this statement... I didn't feel like listing *all* the sets that contained that piece. If I wanted to, I would've, trust me. :) I just wanted to give Kyle an idea as to how old the piece was, and a (...) (25 years ago, 17-Feb-00, to lugnet.starwars)
