First, let me fall on my sword about this, I am very very late in posting this
info and I sincerely apologise.

As I said in this post:

http://news.lugnet.com/year/2005/?n=47 and down thread...

LEGO is going to do an ISD build contest at Celebration III and is soliciting
teams of the media to compete. I asked if they were going to exclude AFOLs
because we would so obviously dominate the media since we have smoked the record
down a lot several times, and the answer was 'bring it', so a "LUGNET" (that's
the badge I was there under) team could be entered if so desired.

So, how about it? Is there interest in fielding a team? Or even 2? The spiffs
are great...

I don't have time to organise this. if you think you can take the lead, post
here. If you think you can participate but don't want to be a leader, mail all
of the people that posts here saying they can lead a team, hopefully we can self
organize a team or two. You need to be planning to go to Star Wars Celebration
III, there is no funding to get you there.

Here is a FAQ from Melinda. I'll give team leaders Melinda's contact info.

She needs to order shirts and stuff ASAP. What a  slacker I am! Sorry! But I
know we can blow anyone else away...

Calling all teams!

You may already have heard the news but if you haven’t – get ready. There’s a
serious competition brewing between SithTM and JediTM and it’s happening in the
LEGO® booth at Star WarsTM Celebration III. It’s the first-ever tournament style
LEGO Star DestroyerTM building contest… and we think it’s going to be awesome.

Do you have questions? If so – see if your answers are below:

Q:      How much does it cost for my magazine/website to host a team?

A:      Team sponsorship is absolutely free, however, you will need to make sure
that everyone on your team is able to pay for their entrance into Star Wars
Celebration III in Indianapolis, IN.

Q:      Who can sign up?

A:      The first EIGHT teams who respond to this e-mail. (No pressure)

Q:      Does everyone on my team have to work for my company/website?

A:      Heck no. We actually encourage you to get your best fans to make up your
team. Do something fun – have them all wear funky head pieces or use
intimidating noise makers or something else that’s as creative as you are. It’s
your game! Of course you can have your team filled with your over-worked staff
because there’s no telling what secret LEGO building talents those colleagues
posses.

Q:      How many people can be on a team at once?

A:      Each team can have up to 10 members. And here’s better news…if you need
to substitute people from one day to the next – that’s fine. You even can
substitute people from one round to the next. The only rule is that once a round
begins – you can only use the people on your roster for that specific match.

Q:      How is the building area set-up?

A:      Each team will have two banquet-size tables to use that are adjacent to
one another. We recommend you use one table for LEGO Star Destroyer parts and
the other for building but that’s entirely up to you!

Q:      Exactly how does the tournament work, anyway?

A:      Okay – follow me on this one. The event is set up like the NCAA
basketball tournament. There are two “regions” – Sith and Jedi. The first day of
tournament play (Friday, April 22) there will be a total of four matches. Two
matches will pit Sith against Sith and two matches will pit Jedi against Jedi. I
know – for shame! But on Saturday, April 23rd, the real intense battles begin.
There will be one match to determine the Sith semi-finalist and one match to
determine the Jedi semi-finalist. And of course – the ultimate duel caps off the
tournament.

Q:      What time are the matches?

A:      Friday  10am    Jedi 1 vs. 2 match

        Friday  1pm     Sith 1 vs. 2 match

        Friday  4pm     Jedi 3 vs. 4 match

        Friday  7pm     Sith 3 vs. 4 match

        Sat.    10am    Winners of Friday’s 10am and 4pm matches

        Sat.    1pm     Winners of Friday’s 1pm and 7pm matches

Sat.    4pm     FINAL DUEL – Jedi vs. Sith

Q:      What do we get?

A:      The coolest schwag around! Each member of your team (up to 10 people)
will receive either a Sith or Jedi t-shirt. These are one-of-a-kind and they
rock. Designed by our own Keith Malone, I promise you’ll love it – regardless of
which one your get. You also will receive one FREE practice set. Holy cow!
That’s a huge value. Not to mention – I’ll mail it to you as soon as you sign up
so you have plenty of time to practice. What else? Well, if your team wins, each
member will receive a cool Darth VaderTM medallion and there will certainly be
the most awesome trophy you’ve ever seen. Only one of these though, so you’ll
have to figure out how to best display it or share it. Good luck with that one.

Q:      Is there an age requirement?

A:      Nope. Well, not true, actually. For product safety reasons, we would ask
that you keep your team members above the age of five.

Q:      How much pressure will we undergo?

A:      A lot. Seriously. It’s going to be so much fun. We know this will be a
show-stopper. We’re going to try to get everyone to gather around and watch. We
even have an emcee to pump up the crowd so you might want to practice to the
tune of some loud music.

That’s about it. If you end up with additional questions – don’t hesitate to let
me know. I’ll get back to you ASAP!
