Hey all,

Couldn't wait when I saw this one on the shelves.  I wanted to see the new
click-hinges up close and REALLY wanted to have some trans-antifreeze
thin-walls in my hot little hands!

Overall impressions:  Very nice set, great selection of plates, beams, and
bricks.  An excellent selection of various click-hinge pieces aside from the
new pieces used for the legs.  The usage of click-hinges to angle plates
together works really well here to create the impression of a large, bulky
vehicle without adding to much weight to the model.  I especially like how
the large side panels were positioned to meet the lines of the roof and
front sections.

Although the leg positions can be changed, it takes some time to find a pose
that evenly distributes the weight to all six legs.  Also the removeable
roof that gives you access to the two interior sections makes it difficult
to easily pick up the model.  You have to either remove the roof or cradle
it from the underside.

However, there's a lot of good action in the set.  There's the nice
top-mounted turret on the front which has some nice greeblies.  The cockpit
below opens out and the pilot slides out on a little platform for easy
access.  The removable Clone Trooper section in the front is neat, but
could've used two more troopers fill it up.  The speeder bike fits perfectly
in the rear section once you open the panel.

Notable parts:

At least ten 2x2 sand blue tiles.
Four 2x2 dual-inverse corner slopes in gray.
Two 1x2x5 super-talls in dark red.
Six new ball-and-socket assemblies.
Two 1x2x3 and 2x4x3 trans-antifreeze thin-walls (*drool* must have more!).
Two pairs of 1x3x12 split-slopes in gray.
Four decorated 4x4 radar dishes.
Two decorated 6x6 radar dishes.
Six new click-hinge joints (Two pieces each, one black, one gray).
One pair Classic wing plates in dark red.
At least a dozen 1x2 plates in dark red.
One pair 1x2x6 split-slopes in dark red.
At least eight 1x2 tri-corner slopes (half apex) in gray.
Four 1x2 lime green tiles.
One 4x4 turntable in gray.

The new large click-hinge pieces used for the knees have very interesting
possibilities!  A Technic friction peg will attach through the center of the
rotational axis.  Sorry if this is old news, I just really liked this set!

Dave

I agree. I wish there were more clones in there... I was shocked the pull-out pilot seat didn't have any controls on it. Otherwise, besides its fragile state and the almost total inability to take the speeder bike out when you put it in, it's a (...) (22 years ago, 17-Feb-03, to lugnet.starwars)
