Out of curiosity, I checked out how the price per piece fared over
1999-2002, since I kinda had that "gut feeling" that 1999 sets were a better
value. But try as I might, nothing doing. A few oddities.
After factoring out UCS sets, minifig packs, and Technic sets, I found the
price per piece ratio was almost exactly $0.114 USD per piece for 1999-2001;
until 2002 where the price per piece for SW "system" sets jumps to 0.147!
(Factoring in *ALL* sets, I get avg costs of $0.1177, $0.1470, $0.1075, $0.1295)
For "Classic" SW 'system' sets (Episodes 4-6), however, I did notice an
alarming trend. The price on these has gone up each year: $0.1140, $0.1194,
$0.1244, $0.1851! Of course, it's not really saying much since the average
sized set has been decreasing. So all that's really saying is that smaller
sets are usually worse values. But we knew that anyway. Oh well.

| Hey Dave, Thanks for posting that. The statistics are really quite interesting. There were some that I was definately surprised at, but others not at all. I have most of the sets except Millenium Falcon, MTT, Watto's Junkyard, Podrace Bucket, Ewok (...) (23 years ago, 26-Apr-02, to lugnet.starwars)

| (...) Totally instructive - how about figuring out a "most useful piece" ratio? What kills me the most is when I get a set with, say, 210 pieces and more than a third of them are overly specialized while another third are garbage pieces that have a (...) (23 years ago, 27-Apr-02, to lugnet.starwars)
