#6951 Robot Command Center PROTOTYPE?

Hey,
I read recently in an ebay auction for a 6951 that this set, the Robot Command
Center (from 1986), was a based on a concept designed for a contest...some sort
of "design a space set" contest. If this is untrue, then please ignore.
I was looking at the set, and the color layout, part assortment, and placement
of printed pieces is very TLG in design. Plus, there's a few unique elements
(most notably the clear red radar dishes similar to ones found on 452 Mobile
Tracking Station) which couldn't possibly have been included in the original
concept.
I'd be interested in seeing shots of the original prototype made by this
anonymous builder/fan. Who was this person? Perhaps a regular Lugnet reader?
What sort of prize did he/she win? Hopefully it wasn't just the now-dubious
honor of "notoriety."
Any leads, LMK.
