  Re: Closing airlocks

Here's one of my favorites. It's not an airlock per se, but a hatch that closes flush and doesn't take up much space. Could easily be the outside door of an airlock. It's (URL) Todd Trotter's Sighthound Recon>. James Wilson Dallas, TX (21 years ago, 19-Oct-04, to lugnet.space, lugnet.build, FTX)

  y-wing, no capital letter

Here is an y-wing, with a small y, not a capital Y. Cheaper than the original Y-wing. No weapons, no AC, no stereo. Just plain ride. For the budget space racer. Some say for the purist. (URL) Click on the pic = post mod folder. Enjoy the ride! JP. (21 years ago, 19-Oct-04, to lugnet.space, lugnet.starwars, lugnet.build, FTX) !!

(...) Here are 2 pictures: (URL) are almost the same as Erik Amzallag did (see other message in thread), mine is using an arch, and head light holders give the 1/5 offset I need.   Re: Combat strategies and tactics in space. Was: Jormungand Carrier Strike Craft

(...) The scales are still staggering by normal conparison. Consider a battle at earth to moon distances . Detection time is in the order of 2-3 seconds to cover the distance. Lets use a 300 G acceleration...d=1/2AT^2, and one light second (300 000 (...) (21 years ago, 19-Oct-04, to lugnet.space, FTX)

Technical nits (Was: Jormungand Carrier Strike Craft)

OK, as long as we're picking nits... :-) (...) Actually, heat (a form of radiation, *not* kinetic energy) will propagate in space than in an atmosphere. But for a bomb outside the atmosphere, a higher percentage of the yield will go into direct (...) (21 years ago, 19-Oct-04, to lugnet.space, FTX)

  Re: Steambots

(...) Nice Retro looking robots too. I like. I recommend to anyone who like this kind of Retro Science go see "Steam Boy" if at all possible. It is Katsuhiro Otomo's first feature film since "Akira" and I believe that Sony is distributing it. I saw (...) (21 years ago, 19-Oct-04, to lugnet.space, lugnet.build.mecha)

(...) In seriousness to a joke of a post, via air. I am a air computer maintainer. Professionally. So, I maintain a analog computer. Hence why if you look around, you will find my posts sometimes tagged as :analog computer programmer: or suchlike. (...) (21 years ago, 19-Oct-04, to lugnet.space, lugnet.build.mecha, FTX)

(...) How do you run the control algorithms on steam? Is it all open-loop mechanical activation? --B (21 years ago, 19-Oct-04, to lugnet.space, lugnet.build.mecha, FTX)

Re: Combat strategies and tactics in space. Was: Jormungand Carrier Strike Craft

(...) I didn't say that you didn't account for the physics involved, I said that you didn't consider what impact the sheer scale of space would have on combat strategies and tactics. One can postulate methods around the laws of physics as currently (...) (21 years ago, 19-Oct-04, to lugnet.space, FTX)

(...) Sometimes I think you build stuff just so you'll have an excuse to create those crazy captions and commentaries. Well played. Do they ever shoot blasts of steam as an attack? (21 years ago, 19-Oct-04, to lugnet.space, lugnet.build.mecha, FTX)

Entry to the ol' wheels in space contest

Are you tired of putzing around the moon in a (URL) go cart?> Kinda dull going just slightly slower than a fleebnork, don't ya think? Well, my fellow spacefarer, save that 9 volt cart for the weekend and 18 craters of astro golf, 'cause your (...) (21 years ago, 19-Oct-04, to lugnet.space, FTX)

You don't know my mother. Thanks for explaining steam as a power source. My favorite steambot is the short legged one. And I like steamrice. JP. (21 years ago, 19-Oct-04, to lugnet.space, lugnet.build.mecha, FTX)

  Steambots

(URL) Steambots aren't powered with fancy-dancy unobtainium power-fusion or uber-posh magic crystals.
