Hey guys,
I was wanting to build a floating space station, but I cant figure how to do
a practical design. Any suggestions?

Unfortunately for Joshua, just at that moment several smartasses were sitting
waiting with their hands poised over their keyboards.
Very funny, guys... fortunately you were mostly amusing ;-)
Joshua, Ive been thinking about something similar. It depends on what
properties you want and how much of various elements you have.
If you want it to be a rotating ring-shaped station, you might be in for a
challenge. I would go for a non-rotating station myself (either futuristic
artificial gravity (AG) or zero-gee like the ISS). It would be helpful (but not
essential) if you avoided having an obvious up orientation for the design,
because thats reminiscent of terrestrial buildings.
If you go the AG approach, include the generators in the design. You could also
try varying the down direction for different areas, a bit like an Escher
illustration.
If you go the zero-gee approach, make sure you put lots of handrails in, and try
avoiding having ceilings or floors - all walls have stuff on them. Actually,
that could look cool. Make sure you can easily open the rooms for photography,
though :-)
If you want it to perch on a support (instead of sitting squat on the table) to
help give that floating impression, then you could go with a Technic framework
that has modular passage/room segments attached to it. If you dont have enough
Technic then you might have to make it stand on multiple pylons, and have the
pylons represent downward-pointing station towers. Plan it so that they all
extend about the same distance from the rest of the structure.
Hopefully that helps, or at least helps prompt some more specific questions
about what obstacles you see to building your space station.
Cheers,
