Ah yes, what I call, "The Law of Falling Lego."  Basically, according to
this principle of physics, if a Lego element falls from a play or work
surface toward the ground, you can find it almost immediately, *if* before
it hits the ground you actually watch it closely with your eyes.  However,
if you fail to watch the falling Lego element as it falls, then it will
inevitably bounce, roll, and otherwise move an inordinate distance in the
most unlikely and unpredictable direction, and it will take you between 1
hour and 2 years (or more) to find the element again.

The exact formula is something like:

  T = BxSxM

Wherein:

  T = time in hours to find the element.
  B = (blind) time in minutes elapsed without you looking since element fell.
  S = size factor of element (1-100, 1 being a CRAPP, 100 being a 1x1 tile).
  M = how messy the floor is (1-100, 1 being perfectly clean and clutter
free smooth surface, 100 being a floor littered with cat toys, dust balls,
multi-colored carpets, various Lego idea books, boxes of unsorted elements,
and with cracks and holes along the baseboards).
