Hey all,

My second ship, Starship Explorer 2, was built several weeks after the
original. It took me three weeks to get the whole thing completed (You have
no idea how many designs I went through to get the perfect saucer
section...well, almost). The mass of the ship has been increased (what was
once two decks is now four) and I actually have room to put stuff inside it.
The design of the ship itself was a pain in the butt,  the problem with
building the ships of Star Trek is that in the series, there is no gravity
in space :p. Hence the use of many support bricks for the saucer section and
warp engines.

There are many features of the ship, and as of yet it is still incomplete (I
hope to build actual working shuttlebay doors soon, and maybe some landing
gear.) Inside there are several crew quarters, galley, engineering section,
escape pods, sick bay etc. etc. I hope to have pictures of those up soon.

So am I happy with the ship? No, not really. The saucer section is very
unstable and unable to hold its own weight, and I think I need to experiment
on designing the engineering hull. The warp engines could use some work, and
I would like to smooth out the top and maybe add a bridge.
Oh well, what's done is done and for now I'm just going to sit back and
enjoy the view of having this massive 167 stud long object in my room.

Some pictures of the ship are blurry, I apologize for that, I hope to have
better ones up soon. The pictures also don't do the thing justice, in real
life I have to tiptoe around it. If you ask any members of VicLug about it,
they'll agree.

See the ship at my gallery:

I hope to have better pictures of it up tomorrow...right now it's time to
hit the sack.

Let me know what you think!

Hey Erin. I like it a lot. You did a great job sculpting the saucer. I always liked the elongated hull on Voyager. I really admire your courage in tackling the general Star Trek shape. Its gotta be a nightmare getting everything stable and balanced. (...) (23 years ago, 25-Feb-02, to lugnet.space)
