I posted a jpeg of the spine design for my Lord Alexander class
battleship and yet to be posted Battle of Eridani class battleship.
You can view it at http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=88473
I forgot to put this in the picture, but it's the top and bottom are
held together single layered plates and 4x2 bricks.
For the Battle of Eridani the spine was built independent of the ship
and integrated at the rear of the spine and at the crossbeams (at the
brick 11 level.)
The spine works VERY well on both ships. It especially works well
with the Battle of Eridani because I made a "partial spine." This
partial spine was supposed to be almost identical to the main spine and
mounted on the bottom, but held together exclusively by single layer
plates. Unfortunately, I couldn't find enough plates to do that so I
settled with connecting the parts of the spine at critical junctures and
stress points. When used in conjunction with the primary spine, there's
almost no flexing, and the ship is extremely stable..

"but it's the top and bottom are (...) Ahem, I guess I didn't rewrite that sentence correctly... I meant to say "but it's top and bottom are held together by single layered plates and 4x2 bricks." (23 years ago, 2-Dec-01, to lugnet.space)
