New MOC: One-man Scout Ornithopter from "Dune" —Paul Hanson
"I must rule with eye and claw - as the hawk among lesser birds." - Duke Leto Atreides ___...___ Hi everyone - I'm a big fan of Frank Herbert's "Dune", but I've never cared for the way that ornithopters have been shown in the movies and other (...)      hey, that's really cool. I never thought of a 'thopter like that. I remember the ones from the Sci-Fi miniseries, and the ones from the old movie. didn't really care for either design. I think my favorite design so far came from "Dune 2000", the (...) (23 years ago, 17-Oct-01, to lugnet.space, lugnet.build)

(...) Thanks - I'm glad you like it. I've never seen the 'thopter from the game - any chance you could post, or point me to, some pics? - Paul (23 years ago, 17-Oct-01, to lugnet.space, lugnet.build)

Re: New MOC: One-man Scout Ornithopter from "Dune" —Anthony Babington
(URL) they don't look THAT good ingame, but I've always been a fan of Dragonflys, so this was the design that always stuck with me. I'm thinking I may try my hand at building one, as a sort of fourth interpretation of a 'thopter (at this rate, we're (...) (23 years ago, 17-Oct-01, to lugnet.space, lugnet.build)

In lugnet.space, Paul Hanson writes: This 'thopter rules. It looks a LOT like I've always imagined one would. Very birdlike. Now you need a Spice CrawlerFactory and a carrywing to go with it. (...) Hagrid? Those 2x2 based figs with the 2/3 finger (...) (23 years ago, 17-Oct-01, to lugnet.space, lugnet.build)

(...) Thanks. I did toy with the idea of building a spice crawler, but it would have to be HUGE. (...) Hmmm - interesting ideas. But the Baron isn't really a giant, just big around. (...) Blue-eyed minifigs? Now your just being nitpicky :-) (...) (...) (23 years ago, 17-Oct-01, to lugnet.space, lugnet.build)

Re: New MOC: One-man Scout Ornithopter from "Dune" —George Haberberger
(...) Paul, I think your 'thopters are the best of the three listed, they come pretty close to capturing the feel I got from the books. Do you remeber where did you get the felsh colored minifigs with the tubes/pipes on the face? Thanks, George (23 years ago, 17-Oct-01, to lugnet.space, lugnet.build)

(...) Glad you like it. That minifig head is a Hydronaut head. I got mine from Solo Sub 6110, which was a pretty inexpensive set & still available until recently. (the minifig is the only good thig about it, however...) - Paul (23 years ago, 17-Oct-01, to lugnet.space, lugnet.build)

(...) Perhaps definitely. (...) That's a fun idea - I think it does. I had a lot of fun making these figs - Dune is just full of great characters. Glad you like 'em. - Paul (23 years ago, 17-Oct-01, to lugnet.space, lugnet.build)

Re: New MOC: One-man Scout Ornithopter from "Dune" —Michael Dallaston
Hi, I'm a big Dune fan too. I love the ornithopter, just as I imagined it (and completely unlike the movie, which is good - I hated the movie!). The minifigs are pretty cool too, though I must point out harkonnen uniforms are blue, not red. Westwood (...) (23 years ago, 18-Oct-01, to lugnet.space, lugnet.build)

Re: New MOC: One-man Scout Ornithopter from "Dune" —Paul Hanson
(...) Glad you like it. I thought the movie and miniseries both had some good things and some really awful things (the 'thopters in both being one of the awful things). (...) You're probably right. I didn't do a lot of research for the 'figs. I (...) (23 years ago, 18-Oct-01, to lugnet.space, lugnet.build)
