That would be Stephen F. Roberts who has the plot seed out there right now.
Still in progress, btw - http://news.lugnet.com/space/?n=10443.
He and I had briefly discussed various combined efforts that could be made,
which is where Space World/Realm would fit in. It would seem
counter-intuitive for us to end up with 5 or 6 different competing "central"
sites, but it seems like this is what will happen if Space World development
doesn't kick-start soon. (Indeed, this appears to be what is happening.)
IMO, the function of a Space World is to provide a central portal to other
sites, as well as providing various services that a single personal site (or
group of personal sites) either cannot provide or that can be better
facilitated by the central site.
Here's a list of ideas that I've collated from various sources. If you think
something is missing, please follow-up!
Shared story arcs / plot seeds
- Basically what SFR is doing
Contests
- Building contents, story contests, trivia, etc.
News Service
- Track lugnet.space and pull the interesting headlines. Things tend to
get lost from view in the news group over time. This could help to lengthen
the shelf-life of interesting items.
Web Trek
- To seek out new life and civilizations. New websites anyway. Believe it
or not, there are some great LEGO sites out there by people who know nothing
about LUGNET! Web Trek would be a volunteer PR effort to located non-Space
World, non-LUGNET sites out there and see if we can't welcome a few new
members to the community.
Meeting / Event Facilitation
- Some type of tool / tools to help coordinate meeting and events between
various space heads. Could also help with coordinating displays, etc. in
larger LEGO events.
Please, add your ideas as you see fit. I'll try to keep a list going so that
we don't lose anything valuable.
