Only the RCX2 firmware supports these features.  If you set the target to RCX2
then it will compile.



Gus is correct, although there are other targets which support arrays and
indirect variables.

NQC defaults to RCX as the target.  You need to use the -TRCX2 switch if you are
running the 2.0 firmware on your RCX and you want to use arrays and indirect
variables.  You could also use the Swan firmware for the RCX and use -TSwan or
if you have a Spybot you could use -TSpy as the target.  Section 2.2.5 in the
NQC Guide (entitled "Arrays") starts with a statement indicating that only the
RCX2, Spybot, and Swan targets support arrays.  The NQC Guide could be clearer
about which targets support indirect variables but it happens to be the same as
which targets support arrays.
