howto apply usb patch to brickos

Hi,
thanks to some responses from this forum I now know that I need to patch brickos
in order to function with the usb ir tower. The problem is...I have no idea how
to apply this patch. I already downloaded the patch from sourceforge.net:
legos-0.2.6-linux-usb-fastdl-sched.patch.gz (there is an other that you can use
as well)
Then I go to the brickos dir :/usr/lib/brickos#
apply the patch :
ganymedes:/usr/lib/brickos# zcat
/home/dirk/patch/legos-0.2.6-linux-usb-fastdl-sched.patch|patch -p1
can't find file to patch at input line 4
Perhaps you used the wrong -p or --strip option?
