I'm very interested in this as well. I hope to work on it this winter, when I spend my free time on legos and computers instead of boating and playing sports. When I checked last, getting a trademark on a name costed (I believe) about $45. (...) If it helps, I got binutils to compile by using the --disable-bfd-assembler option to configure. Then I ran into gcc troubles.
