Hi Rand,
I have started an hardware replacement for the RCX. Its based on an 16bit
µController, an Infineon (Siemens) C164 with 128kb flash, 128kbSRAM and 64kb
EEPROM. The controller plus the all memory is on a module from Phytec
"Dipmodule 164", like a big 40 pin IC. Therefore all the dificult parts (PCB
layout ...) are already solved. My PCB contains only the interfaces to the
outside world. This are a RCX compatible IR tranceiver, I2C Interface, 6
motor driver, 8 AD inputs (2 of them active RCX compatible), status LEDs and
an beeper. No LCD, but can easily attached to the I2C bus.
