Hi,I've made my own one.
I use a electronic kit I find in an electronic shop in France.
This kit needs to be soldering, I do not remenber the name but it was a
9Volts ultrasonic sensor kit.
It was very convenient because the output was a led:
The led turn on when the ultrasonic move to a surface.
LEGO light sensor could be use to detect the light turning on.
If electronic is not a matter for you you could exhange the led for
optoelectric "optocoupleur" (ref: 4n35) and connect it to RCX through a
resistance.
The kit I used wasn't perfect, I have to adjust it each time I powered it on
and the sensitivity wasn't convenient for a small LEGO robot.
However I think you should ask in electronic shop in your town.
Usually VELLEMAN kits are good ones but they do not provide adapted
ultrasonic kit.
Note you can find lot of electronic cicuit on web in case you want to make
it by yourself.

| Hi I've checked out the circuits online, but they all make use of a PIC to generate the frequency. I don't have access to PICs so im looking for an alternative. Also, I checked out about your kits and unfortunately no-one stocks that sort of stuff (...) (22 years ago, 20-Mar-03, to lugnet.robotics.rcx)
