Hello,
I've just had an crazy but simple idea a few days back.
I was looking at all the pullback cars from LEGO in the shop, and it strikes
me that the only thing that pullback motor does is to first "charge" the
motor (spring) with energy and then release the energy so the car leaps
forward. And it just goes straight forward...
Now if I set an 9v-motor at idle and put an rotation sensor on the axel, I
can record the movment of the car. So when I push the car one or the other
way the RCX will count how far I've pushed it, and when I then release it it
will travel back the same amout of way that I pulled it and then release the
motor again..
That would mimic the pullback cars princip ?
So here is my car:

But I've not made a program for it yet. I have no experience with NCQ and I
only have Minstorm 1.5 installed at the moment and I cant record an variable
in that program. Have to wait until I got my Mindstorm 2.0 set with the CD
back. Or maybe I just buy a new one :)
Anyone that are up for programing that simple program for me?
This is the action:
1. Set Rotation Sensor 1 to Zero
2. Motor A at idle (not stop, but let the motor run free)
3. Record Rotation Sensor 1
4. If Rotation Sensor 1 has not have any change in values for 2 seconds
then set
Power on Motor A at max power and choose a direction in opposite
direction
of the recorded rotation.
5. Let Motor A run until rotation has gone back to zero
6. Release Motor A (let the motor run free)
and then start at point 1. after 5 seconds
(or until the rotation sensor have no change in value for about 1 or 2
seconds)

| Interesting idea. The idea of a pullback car is that you provide the energy, and store it in a spring. How about a "real" pullback car that works like this: The drive motor would be used as a generator during pullback, to charge a capacitor. You (...) (22 years ago, 26-Jan-03, to lugnet.robotics.rcx)
