If the motor runs on 9V anyway, just hook it up to RCX directly
(assuming it only draws 500ma). If it needs more than that, hook an
external battery up to it via a power transistor (either bipolar or
FET). You'll need a resistor in series with the transistor's base/gate
(100 ohms should give you about 80ma drive current for a bipolar, use
100K ohms for a FET). This assumes you only want to control a motor
in one direction. if you want to do it in both directions, there are
things called "H Bridges" that you can use. These are basically four
power FETs in one package. 2 leads go to the motor, 2 leads go the the
external battery and the input (control side of the device connects to
the RCX). How it connects will depend on the manufacturer. It's 3:00am
and I'm too tired to go looking through data books for part numbers
now, but you should be able to do a search on "H-bridge" or "motor
controller IC's" and find some yourself.
