hi All,
Inspired by some applications of the 16F84 PIC, we came up with the idea
to make a IR-module, which is capable of doing all the InfraRed tasks we
could imagine with the RCX.
Well it hasn't come so far, but we have build a RCX IR-remote control
with some nice extra features above the Lego remote. For the remote we
used a PIC. We think the PIC is a very flexible and powerfull device for
interfacing all kind of things to the RCX. So we have selected/build all
the tools to get involved with PICs. You can program them in the
language JAL, which has a very close resemblance to NQC. Even an IDE
(Integrated Development Environment) for PICs just like Brixcc (formerly
known as RCXcc) is available.
So if you're interested in building your own programmable RCX remote
control, look here
http://baserv.uci.kun.nl/~smientki/Lego_Knex/Lego_electronica/PicProg/RCX_remote_control.htm
If you want to use PICs in the same easy way as the RCX itself, you
should look here

If you don't like reading, but just want to try, download the
selfextracting starter package here

Have fun with it,
regards,
Stef Mientki
