Hehehehe... I have to laugh, Brian. Other people have told you that it
is a "Brick Separator", and it is extremely useful. The reason that I
am laughing is that when I was just coming out of my dark ages almost
exactly two years ago... I was just as baffled by this piece as you
were. There wasn't anything like that back when I was a kid playing
with Lego. It sure is a useful little device now, and I always make
sure that I have one lying around in my building area. :-)
