I have a collection of HandyBoards I'm trying to prepare for class this fall.
They're a few years old now and have seem some fairly heavy use. I'm having
trouble charging them and am hoping there's a component to replace or something
I can fix to bring them back to life.
The basic problem is: when I plug them into a charger (including chargers which
work fine with other boards), I get a strong burning smell in the room almost
immediately. Also, the charging LED glows bright organge instead of yellow. I
don't know that I have a strong enough electronics background to really work on
the problem, so I'm hoping this is clearly indicative of a particular burnt out
component or something like that which someone can point out to me.
Thanks!

| When the batteries are really run down, they can draw too much current through the on-board charging circuit. (I'm assuming you are plugging adapters directly to the HBs, rather than going through the serial interface/phone line charge ckt.) About 6 (...)
