The third annual RoboFest competition is being held at Lawrence
Technological University in Southfield, Mi on April 27, 2002. The
competition portion of Robofest called RoboRescuers, is unique this year,
due to the fact that participants need to develop two robots that can
communicate with each other in order to complete the mission.
There are two divisions competing in the RoboFest: Lego Robot Division, who
are restricted to using Lego Mindstorms(mostly middle schools) with either
the native RCX interface or RoboLab; and the Advanced Robot Division(high
school students, college students, and beyond), which has no platform
restrictions(i.e. you can use HandyBoard, Basic Stamp, OOpic, etc...), and
no programming restrictions(you can use any high level language such as VB,
C++, or Java).
There are also two exhibition divisions with basically no restrictions. The
exhibition portion of RoboFest is a good chance to demonstrate any kind of
unique or interesting robot design and implementation(current entries
include a dancing Lego Mindstorms robots, a HandyBoard based robotic blimp,
and a laptop based Robot Bartender).
Each year we have more and more teams registering for RoboFest, and this
year is no exception. We already have more than 70 teams registered for all
divisions.
Best of all, RoboFest is FREE. There is no registration fee of any kind. All
participants receive a certificate and a medal in recognition of their hard
work, and the winners of each division receive full sized trophies, as well
as cash prizes.
