Hi,  I am new to the handyboard area, having spent most of my project
time with 68705 series uP's and 80X51's (done hate me.).

Just tossing out some possibilities and not trying to down-play any
other ideas that have preceeded me....

An expansion board with something like the MC68230 might be nice.
In one package that would give you:

2 - standard I/O ports (Ports A & B)
    with  4 INTERRUPTABLE handshake lines

        1 - additional 8 bit port (Port C)

1 - 24 bit timer (5 bit prescale)

So you can configure it to get 24 bits of digital I/O if you want
digital I/O, and you get a free timer and interrupts to go with
it.

I also agree with the earlier postings that:

* More digital I/O would be nice and that:
* Digital I/O is an easy addition with some latches
* More serial I/O would be nice
* Additional motor control can be handled with the
    Stamp board describe in earlier postings.

Perhaps another tack might be to try a MC68901.  This chip gives
you:
* 8 bits of interruptable (both edges) I/0.
* 4 timers
* 1 Serial Port

With a couple of bi-directional latches, you could whip up a board
that gives you plenty of digital I/O expansion, interrupts, timers,
and a serial port.

Again, please let me repeat, these are just off-the-top ideas.  It
is nice to bouce ideas off others and I know there are lots of
weaknesses with the above possibilities.

This is really cool!  Since I dont get a chance to babble that often,
except to my pet worms,  let me throwout one last piece of food for
thought.....   An expansion board with a little bit of prototying
area would be nice also.  I have been playing with a bunch of the
Dallas serial devices, RTC, EEROM, etc.., and they are really
cool.  No matter what the expansion board ends up being, room for
a couple of their 8 - pin serial devices would really be nice too.

Sorry for overstaying my welcome....

Richard
