How can I set up digital outputs from the handyboard?  I would like to
drive 3 or 4 LEDs on my robot.  Can I make the digital ins outputs?

See the FAQ:

Alternatively, are there any serial rs-232 facilities available on the
handy board other than one used for programming, such as special use of
the SPI?  I am spoiled by the PICs ability to use any I/O as serial
in/out.

I would very much like to add PIC sub-processors and be able to
communicate with a serial connection between the subs and the handy.

This would be easy to do; someone just has to write 6811 machine code
to perform async serial out functions.  you would be able to use any
of the 4 spi pins, or one of the two free timer out pins.  if someone
were really psyched, they could write interrupt driven serial I/O
using the spare counter and timer lines.
