Greetings all,
The Handy Board Expansion Board version 2.0 design is complete! I'm
pretty excited about the feature set, which includes a bunch of things
not on the older (not released) expansion boards:
* high-impedance analog inputs
* PIC programming capability (+++)
* connector for Polaroid ultrasonic sensor (***)
As in the past, I will be distributing a limited number of *beta
versions* of the design for public testing. Everyone is welcome to
order a beta version, with the understanding that there might be a bug
or two on the board.
After the beta testing cycle, an official version will be released to
all.
I've arranged for Gleason Research to handle people's beta orders.
They have set the price for the Expansion Board at $25 (incl.
shipping), and you can pay by Mastercard or VISA.
So as to expedite the beta run, please place your order by February
15. That's next Thursday.
Enclosed is a copy of the text on the Expansion Board web page. Find
the Expansion Board page at
http://el.www.media.mit.edu/groups/el/projects/handy-board/hbexp20b/index.htm
and as linked from the main HB page.
Cheers,
Fred

Handy Board Expansion Interface,
Version 2.0

The HB Expansion Interface
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Handy Board Expansion Interface plugs into the Handy Board, providing a
number of new features:
* Twenty (20) additional analog inputs.
* Four (4) high-impedance analog inputs, suitable for interfacing with
sensitive devices. (Three analog inputs from the main board are used to
provide these 24 inputs.)
* Four (4) outputs for hobby servo motors. Power for the servo motors may
be supplied from the main Handy Board battery pack (through a series
diode circuit that reduces the battery voltage to a level appropriate
for servo motors), or via an external battery pack attached to a screw
terminal connector.
* PIC16C84 microprocessor for user applications, with prototyping area.
An on-board PIC programming voltage source turns a Handy Board with the
Expansion Board into a PIC programmer.
* Connector for Polaroid ultrasonic ranging sensor.
The Expansion Interface is currently in version number 2.0 beta (as of Mon
Feb 5 18:31:38 1996). Gleason Research is presently taking orders for
persons who wish to evaluate the beta version of the Expansion Board.
After the beta testing is complete, the Expansion Board will be released
under the same terms as the main Handy Board design.
The following links provide information on the Expansion Board.

voltage, and ultrasonic connector circuitry (on-screen display).
