Hi. I'm kinda new at this. I was wondering if anyone can help me • answer this question.

If I wish to drive large motors with a Handyboard, I understand that I
have to use an h-bridge. Will I need to know anything about PWM before
attempting this task?

If the answer is rather involved, does anyone know how I can obtain
the information on this?

The book Mobile Robots (already mentioned) is listed under
ISBN: 1-56881-011-3. It's a good start. No, it's a great start to
understanding motors etc...

Thanks for the tip. I got a hold of the book and read some of it.
:)

I was wondering if sending pulses to the motor would cause "choppy" rotation....or does it occur so fast that inertia effects make it "smooth".

Also, with an h-bridge, is it possible to modify the switching to make the speed of the motors vary at finer increments than 8? Is the 8 levels deal part of the handyboard design or the motor chips.
