The current still goes through the chip. 1 amp max.
But now it will get more hot cuz you disipate more power accross the
integrated transistors with the higher voltage. I think Fred mentioned
that there was a thermal shutdown. (Is this true?) But I imagine
you're save at 1 amp and under.

With external batteries driving the motor outputs(12V), does one have to
worry about the 1amp rule of the driver chips, or can the chips still
support a loas of 1amp before gong haywire?
