I wrote a book, Creative Projects with LEGO Mindstorms, for exactly this situation. No extra parts beyond the kit are needed for 20-something of the 30 projects. Not to mention it is the only book to talk about ROBOLAB! In the book I recommend (...) (25 years ago, 31-Jul-01, to lugnet.robotics.edu)

(...) Joe Nagata's LEGO MINDSTORMS IDEA BOOK has wonderful projects. Even the simple ones are impressive and fun to play with.
