Would the 'bot be "required" to tote the RCX? With a few of the 36" cables,
one could cut the weight down dramatically.

Greetings All!
I am still awaiting the arrival of MindStorms in Hungary, so I have had • a
lot of time to read the O'Reilly book, lurk on LUGNet and this list for • a
month or so, and just generally get a feeling for the whole LEGO • robotics
world.

I have seen treaded robots, wheeled robots, walking robots, and even • flying
and bungee jumping RCX's...

...but I have not seen any "jumping" robots.  I am thinking about • something
with a frog-like action.

Why?  Just to try something different, really.  Has anyone tried this?

Just a thought...

I've been thinking about the same thing ever since seeing pictures of
battleing robots.  It would be great to have a bot that could hop on top • of an
approaching enemy, then start pulling at things.  Enough compressed shock
absorbers should provide enough lift to get your frog airborn, though • perhaps
not very high or far.  I haven't done much with air pistons.  Would they
operate fast enough to get a bot airborn?

Funny enough I've been thinking about this. There's a particular type of
spider that
also acheives this motion by pumping compressed fluid to it's legs,
simultaneously and quickly.
Power to weight ratio is going to be your enemy here.

I remember seeing these on TV too and I'm pretty sure they were pnuematic and that they were tethered. One of the umbilicals was the distictively coiled airline from a compressor... I've been thinking about getting one of those Testors(R) air brush (...) (25 years ago, 21-Nov-99, to lugnet.robotics)
