The Scientific American Unipod also had an off-board pewter.
How about the related, simpler, problem of a balancing robot? It has one leg
which is not stable by itself (rounded base, say). It has to balance on its
leg, and recover from small peturbations. The larger the set of peturbations
it can handle the better, but one could start small. Can that be done with
Midstorms?
If that works then you make it jump and land. I know this isn't particularly
frog-like, but it seems interesting.

| I remember that jumping robot but I think that it was more than 10 years ago... I'm pretty sure I was in High School at the time. If I had to guess I would say 1984-1985 timeframe (or even older?). Somewhat related I remember seing a TV program in (...) (25 years ago, 18-Nov-99, to lugnet.robotics)
