I've also tried most of the RCX environments.
RCXCC + NQC is on top of my list also.
Make sure you go through the excellent NQC tutorial:
http://www.cs.uu.nl/~markov/lego/tutorial.pdf
The software that comes with the MindStorms is actually at the bottom of my
list!
I found it very limiting, and un-natural. I have to translate what I want
to do to what it can do and how it wants to do it.
