2' tall lego R2D2

I am about to be the proud new owner of a set of lego mindstorms and was
trying to think of a good first project. So I figured why not a 2' tall R2d2
as a test platform. Any way just looking for advice I have not seen any lego
robots this size. It looks like the way to do it is make the version with
the 3rd wheel out and just use a motor on each of the side wheels with the
other one just a free. I am just wandering how low I will have to gear it
and how slow it will be. If any one has make any kind of a project like this
please let me know. Thanks in advance to every one:)
