Hi all,
I just finished a little experiment to interface my IR proximity detector to
my RCX brick. It works fine. Using this nifty item I can get a
left/right/both/neither detection data into the RCX using only the sensor
2 block and the "light" sensor data. The IRPD draws about 2.5ma total and gets
its power from the RCX in the usual diode bridge manner. I added another diode
to further drop the voltage to 5.5V for my IRPD. Basically I run a 10K
resistor from the "right" detect to the diode half-wave sensor return and a
4.7K from the left detect. This crude current summer gives these results:
Left Detect 15
Right Detect 60
Both Detect 0
Neither Detect 100
Very convenient numbers. This of course leaves the other two sensors open
for other things. I have some more details posted in rec.toys.lego and
comp.robotics.misc. I have details for my IRPD on my web site at:
http://www.verinet.com/~dlc/botlinks.htm. I'll put more schematic details on
my website as soon as I can. Its a pretty simple interface. If anyone is
interested enough, I may do a PC board that puts all of the needed stuff
together on one PC board of some dimentional integral of bricks ;-)
