In lugnet.robotics & lugnet.admin.general, Todd Lehman writes:
Here is what I propose then for the very near-term -- to be wrapped up and
set into motion in the next day or two...   [E = exists, P = proposed]

  lugnet.robotics                      Generic LEGO robotics           E
  lugnet.robotics.events               Miscellaneous robotics events   E
lugnet.robotics.events.robot-arena   Robot Arena focus group         E
  lugnet.robotics.rcx.fw.legos         legOS focus group               P
  lugnet.robotics.rcx.sw.nqc           NQC focus group                 P

and I could use a lot more feedback* on these three:

  lugnet.robotics.rcx.hw               General RCX hardware            P
lugnet.robotics.rcx.sw               General RCX host software       P
  lugnet.robotics.rcx.fw               General RCX firmware            P

Following is some rationale on the namings of the 2 new groups created
tonight:

One thing I missed earlier which is clearer now with all the Droid-dev-kit
discussions going on:  .sw is potentially ambiguous...  To a new or casual
user, does it mean "software" orr "Star Wars"?  Certainly, juxtaposed with
.hw and .fw, it's probably not that tricky, but it's probably just a waste
of name-space anyway.

Putting legOS and h8hforth in a .fw category and NQC in a .sw category makes
technical/pedantic sense, but not much practical sense...  When you get down
to it, they're all programming/development environments and they have names
independent of whether they're firmware or client/host software.  A person
will probably pick one environment and stick with it (or maybe flirt with
multiple) but they're probably not going to be doing much mixing and matching
of replacement firmware and host software...and if they do, it would mean
that the tools are closely related enough (read compatible enough) that
having their discussion groups in categories so far apart in the first place
would be a bummer.

So there it is:  no .fw, .sw, or .hw.  Just plain simple

   .robotics.rcx.nqc
   .robotics.rcx.legos

Now where did .robotics.rcx.h8hforth go?  Ralph is still keen on having a
focus-group for it, but he's considering a couple other names for his RCX
Forth package and wants to polish it up and make a wider general release
first before starting up the focus group.

(...) Well, I want the resolution that's most beneficial to the individual projects and most enjoyable for participants. Fine resolution is good as long as it lives up to the promise of providing for more focused discussions but bad if it is so fine (...)
