Nope, you don't have to compile the file, but you have to run it :-)

Thanks. :-) I was referring to the possibility that the interpreted
source code may be too slow to communicate effectively with the brick.
My downloads appear to work but then nothing when I press the run button
on the unit. However with the Mind Control program I have managed to
download some demo code for random walking and playing tones, so I know
it is possible.

Programs are downloaded in units (tasks or subs). Mind Control automatically
pauses briefly after each EndOfTask or EndOfSub statement for the download
of this unit to end before the next download starts. Without the pause,
multiple-task programs will not load properly. This may explain the problems
with your own trials.
