I have just updated my website and added a new page outlining PLANO Tackle boxes and how to modify them for that few Technic parts that just won't fit. You can count me as yet another AFOL that "discovered" that Plano "tackle" boxes were *really* intended for Lego storage! The only thing I have to add to the discussion is that K-mart also sells some "milk" storage crates that perfectly hold these (...) (26 years ago, 28-Feb-99, to lugnet.robotics, lugnet.storage)
