I think it's easy to understand what's going on at LEGO when we see that "LEGO still thinks that MindStorms is for kids".
It's simple: A new product takes time to develop, specially if it's something totally new like MindStorms, and LEGO is no exception on that.
What happens it that LEGO targeted their future (but now present) line of products for kids (big mistake) and because it takes an awful lot of time since the first project to the first working prototype and to final production, when they finally noticed that were adults who were buying it after all, they didn't had the time to adapt!
MindStorms and the new MindStorms-like products we see nowadays started many months ago (if not years) - before they knew that was going to happen.
Maybe in one year of so we start seeing adult-oriented LEGO products...?
