I’m fairly pleased with that as well, although now I’ve got big dreams of how to
really use it (and then, I’ll probably be complaining about how it doesn’t have
sub-0.1° resolution :-).
We all do. NXT-G is a big jump for many of us (myself included, and I’ve not had
enough time to really learn graphical programming well yet).

I would like to program a “wait for random time”...

So would I. As you have discovered, there’s no way to wire in a duration to a
Wait block. Here’s another solution, as well as a solution to the “Random
switch” problem:
(oooh, embedded images. I guess I *am* trainable.)
