I've seen mention of improvements to the light sensor and also the change from
analogue to digital interfacing.
I think an improvement to the light sensor, by making it pulse the LED at a
frequency that can be filtered - a lot higher than 50 or 60Hz mains that would
be swamped by room lighting - should allow better detection under varying
ambient light conditions.
The digital interface has 6 wires. For the motors with tachos on board, chances
are there are 2 supply wires, 2 send and 2 receive wires.
The USB protocol uses differential signals in a twisted pair. It's possible
that the sensors and motors use a similar differential protocol. This would
allow quite long phone wires to be constructed (plug mods permitting).
Notice that the USB, Bluetooth and ports all use serial data streaming. It
moght be that similar ports on the ARM chip are used for different peripherals,
just as the similar ADC ports on the H8 in the older RCXs were used for various
things - 3 sensor ports, battery voltage level and others.
Just a few musings that will soon be confirmed or denied when we get our hands
on the new unit. Do any of them agree with what you're thinking?
