    I've been lurking in on this one for awhile, but wanted to let you all
know that PET soda bottles can hold 75-100 PSI no problem.  The main issue
for those in the water rocket and spud gun hobby is the joints of your
homemade fittings, that they hold the pressure.  You can find more by doing
internet searches for these two hobbies.
    The point is that it is unlikely you will blow up the bottle!

Your idea is great and would work quite well.  In one of my applications I
am finding that Just a long hose is working as a reservoir of pressured • air.
I Like your idea because you have simplified the setup... good work!  As to
the loss of fine adjustment in small cylinders... have a look at this old
post... I detailed a method of installing a flow limiter inline.  This
slowed the flow of air, and thus the actuation of the cylinder.  Some times
this is necessary if you are running large cylinders under strong forces,
and small ones under light forces (all on the same tank/compressor).  The
cylinder force is not hindered, just the speed of actuation.
