Hy Joe,

months ago i was looking for an idea for an actuator, then i come out with a
mtor controlled (it's not what you were looking for however) it's a simply
design, it it made of standard lego part nothing of special and using an old
9V motor (high speed, low torque) and with a little trik in programming and
good batteries into the RCX it's worth the space needed.
http://camp0s.altervista.org/Lego/x_fido/x_fido.htm i used it in my robot to
grab a ball, on the page you'll find pictures taken to the robot from
various angles and some video, one with the pneumatic-switch "switching" :)
To have some compressed air i used a "Frontline" bottle and a manual switch
and pump for the charge.

Hope this could help.

Oggetto: electric pneumatic valve actuators?

I've been thinking a lot lately about electrically activated (as opposed to
manual) pneumatic valves.  I've seen several designs on the net where
someone has taken a regular LEGO manual valve, and attached a motor.  That's
clever, but I'm wondering if there are any other designs floating about.
Ideas that have come to mind:

- A pinch valve made by pinching shut a pneumatic tube with a wheel or lever
attached to a motor

- A from-scratch valve made out of LEGO parts (probably tricky to get that
air tight, but might be good enough)

- A real-world (commercial) valve actuator adapter for use with LEGO (tricky
bit here is finding one for a reasonable price)

Have you seen any of these, or something else entirely, to control the flow
of air with standard LEGO 9V electronics?

Thanks,
- Joe
